Huda Beauty Review

Watch This Video If You’re Thinking Of Getting Lip Fillers

Huda Beauty Founder Says “Lip Filler Ruined My Lips.”

Scrolling through the discover page on Instagram has me convinced that the people getting cosmetic fillers in their face are getting younger and younger. Something that we saw mostly on middle aged female celebrities is now something that we see on folks in their 20s. Huda Kattan, the founder of one of the top selling cosmetics brands, Huda Beauty, shared on Instagram IGTV her story with lip fillers and how after 10 years of getting lip fillers, she never actually got what she was looking for.

Huda Kattan is was first known for her beauty blog and her Instagram full of beauty hack videos. Now, you know her self named cosmetics company.

In the IGTV video, the almost 36 year old opens up about the first time she got lip fillers injected in 2009 after doing little to no research of her own. She talks about how, at that time, fillers weren’t very popular but she thought that she “would look more attractive” after the injections.

The Emirati doctor in Dubai who was the first person to give Huda lip fillers gave her 4 lip injections. While her lips were bigger, Huda says they had “no shape.” Over the years, she’s had them fixed and refilled by some well known doctors.

But still, Huda told her viewers that,

“Lip filler is not bad but I did not get what I was looking for.”

The filler just made her lips plumper. What that means is that any fine lines she may have had would have been stretched out and less visible. What she was actually looking for was more height to her lips.. Something she says later in the video can be ‘fixed’ with makeup. She also gives her audience and tutorial on how she overdraws her top lip to make it appear larger.

Over time, the filler started to move to be between her lips and her nose making her appear older and look ‘fake’ as if she had had a ton of work done.

After being advised by a doctor to remove the lip filler because, yes, the injections made her look older, Huda made the decision to have the filler in her top lip dissolved. Which is done by, yup, another type of lip injection.

Huda on the process of having her lip filler dissolved:

“I gave birth without epidural. I was super calm, I can take pain ….and let me tell you, (dissolving the lip filler) was painful.”

So after a decade of lip injections and the painful process of having them removed, Huda’s advice to those considering getting their lips altered:

“Mess around with makeup before you
mess around with a needle.”

This Lightweight Liquid Lipstick Will Survive Taco Tuesday!

Tis the season for deep lips (although I believe you can wear them throughout the entire year).

I have honestly never tried HUDA Beauty Liquid Matte and Lip Contour Matte Pencil before today and I wish I had jumped on this train a while ago. First off the packaging is sultry, and perfect for that Instagram aesthetic.

The shade "Famous" is an absolutely gorgeous Burgundy, reminiscent of my favorite Pinot Noir. Although the shade is incredibly dupable, the actual quality and featherweight formula is NOT.

The liquid lip goes on thin and comfortably. While applying it went on smoothly along my lips. Given, it does have a watery consistency but two layers leave a perfectly sleek, opaque result. It does dry down so lightweight you feel like nothing is on your lips. I recommend blotting lips so that you don't feel a sticky residue. I do have to make sure to let it dry completely before I go on about my day because it will transfer onto and stain my invisible aligners. I don't care what anyone says NO MATTE LIQUID LIPSTICK IS HYDRATING AT ALL, however, this liquid lipstick is more comfortable than most, just make sure you prep your lips properly and exfoliate before application for the best result.

I really do love the Lip Contour Matte Pencil. It glides on incredibly smooth as well and doesn't skip while outlining the lips. It isn't super drying and sits light and well on the lips. It is the perfect base when applied under the liquid lip but also works sufficiently on its own.

Most importantly you guys, this liquid lip and lip contour duo did survive through Taco Tuesday. A tiny bit of transfer did occur but nothing that a quick little touch-up couldn't fix.

As the product dries down, the shade deepens which is pretty cool to see happen before your eyes. Here is how the shade "Famous" sets on my medium skin tone.

The Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipstick retails at sephora.com and shophudabeauty.com for $20 and the matching Lip Contour Matte Pencil retails for $19. Your local Sephora might carry mini pairs to try out before you splurge and commit to the full size products which is a plus.
