This LIne Promises A Full Face In 7 Minutes - New Launches From The Lip Bar

@bufferingbetty

Fast Beat: Look like you took a hour but you did it on the train.

In the age of complicated makeup application, The Lip Bar is giving you back your time. No overly complicated brow routines, no 8 steps to complexion. None of that exists in the launch of their new products that will give you a put together look for where ever you deem makeup necessary.

Meet Fast Face

We’re all reeling from the release of their Skin Serum Foundation in 26 shades!

Just a glance at the shade range, and you can see that WOC with deeper skin tones were at the center of this launch.

Broken down into 6 shade families starting at 1 O’clock t0 6 O’clock.

Founder, Melissa Butler, breaks down the shade families to help you more easily identify your shade. She explained the families by comparing them to a celebrity who would fit the range. She didn’t say a celeb for the lightest group of shades but she said the were very fair. The 4 0’clock shade range correlates to her skin tone, too. Here is the rest of the list.

2:00 Stay Ready - J. Lo

3:00 Boss- Lauren London

4:00 Stuntin’ - Melissa Butler

5:00 Vogue - Kelly Rowland

6:00 Squad Goals - Lupita

The packaging is designed to make application mess proof. The brush head dispenser means you don’t have to add extra tools into the mix. Just pump the bottom and the serum foundation flows through the bristles.

This finish tho!

A breathable, skin like glow for a healthy looking finish.

Hygenic? Yes, they thought of that, too!

Twist the base to pop off the cap and you’ll be able to clean the brush without compromising the integrity of the foundation.

There is a downside to a brush being built in. You cannot return the foudation. It’s a matter of cleanliness. “The brush has been used.” In short, this means, they would absolutley not be able to resell the foudation. Picking your shade online is tricky, even with The Lip Bar’s shade finder. However, of course, they’ve got a solution! You can get three free samples to find your shade. Just pay for shipping!

Why ‘Fast Face?’

Foudantion. Face Palette (with face powder, blush, contour, + highlighter). Eyeliner. Mascara. Poppin’ Lip. That’s the summary to the Fast Face. It all can fit in a small pouch and you’ll look like you used all of the Target beauty section to acheive your look.

Let’s be real:

Have you seen a makeup tutorial lately. On IG or Youtube or even on Sephora’s product videos? Why is it taking 8.4 million steps to get a “natural, everyday, casual, no-makeup makeup” look??

Complex riddles with twists and turns leaving viewers with unanswered questions. If you were just starting out with makeup, you’d be tricked into thinking you’ll need so many proucts for the simplist look.

The Lip Bar pushed away all of the fluff and has streamlined beauty for real life. For people who need to be ready to go like right now.

While riding a train, Melissa Butler came across a woman who literally needed her new launches. That’s who The Lip Bar is designing for. She shared on her IG stories a woman riding the train while doing her makeup. The Skin Serum Foundation would have shaved her from having makeup hands.

Makeup is easy again.

And you’re ready for any where your day is taking you

Naomi Campbell Made A Makeup Tutorial And Now Every Internet Beauty Guru Has Some Explaining To Do

@bufferingbetty

First Step: Be Naomi Campbell

Nothing speaks to the power of Youtube like the trend of celebrities creating their own lifestyle vlog channels. J.Lo, Adrienne Bailon, Shay Mitchell, and, now, Naomi Campbell. This supermodel gave us selfie models the deets to her quick makeup routine and -just, wow. Thank you.

First off, Ms. Campbell starts the video with her immaculate bare skin -the woman has no need for makeup. Makeup needs Naomi. After years of getting her makeup done by the industry’s best, of course Naomi has picked up a few tricks along the way.

“My quick 5 minutes -er, no.. my quick few minutes makeup”

With her skin looking like hydration is thristy, she begins with some concealer to highlight her T-zone.

NARS
Soft Matte Complete Concealer

“Highlighting the T-zone is always important”

“I love using these [triangles]. They lay flat and dont apply too much [product].”

Throw out your beauty blender, folks, and get you a big pack of wedges!

FantaSea
Latex Free Foam Wedges

Naomi’s look was all about highlighting her bone structure and keeping the look as minmal as possible.

“i dont really where base on my forehead because I want to look like I dont really have anything on.”

For this look, instead of apply foundation all over the face, use a highlighting concealer on the center of your face and blend outward.

Pause. Can you believe she just has concealer in the center of her face??? The woman is just stunning.

Concealer. Contour. Blush. Boom. Naomi Campbell.

NARS
Contour Blush in Gienah

One of the biggest takeaways from this tut is that we all need to scrap how we’ve been applying blush. Naomi prefers “high blush.” Apply your blush to high part of you cheek rather than the apple.

“High blush not low blush. I dont like to apply blush on low cheeks. I think looks like clowny and takes away from the bone structure”

NARS
Blush in Geity

She blended the highlight and blush shade from the NARS cheek palette for highlight.

Nars
Man Ray The Veil Cheek Palette

She finished the look with some brightening powder under her eyes.

NARS
Soft Velvet Pressed Powder in Mountain

And threw on the tinyest bit of purple eye shadow. She used the darkest shade from this palette and did a wash of color.

“Purple is my favorite color”

NARS
Quad Eyeshadow in Tropical Express

She shared that when she was younger, NARS Honolulu Honey was her favorite lipstick.

NARS
Satin Lipstick in Honolulu Honey

“After years of sitting in a chair for so many hours, when I do it, it has to be a minute thing.”

She skipped mascara entirely because her lash extensions were so beautiful and she said she doesn’t really wear mascara.

She likes a ‘pinky’ lip and blended these two glosses together.

NARS
Lip Gloss in Sexual Conduct

NARS
Lip Gloss in Outrage

There were a few moments where our hearts dropped. To remove the excess powder, Naomi Campbell kept blowing on her brushes!

What is happening!

But don’t you dare come for Naomi.

Everyone was just honored to be here, honestly.

Facts. We’ve been played. Stop using 600 products to get the same results as Naomi’s look.

^^^AGREE^^^
Naomi doesn’t need a lot of anything.

KKW Body Foundation Changed This Woman's Life And Shut Down Haters On Twitter

@bufferingbetty

So many feels!

KKW Beauty released a body foundation and, as goes everything with the notorious Kardashian family, there was drama. Everyone had a strong opinion to share. But one influencer had a story about her mom that made Twitter take a seat and actually listen.

Katrina is a beauty blogger (@treeeenz) who wanted her followers to know exactly why the KKW Skin Perfecting Body Foundation deserved some love and support.

On Twitter, Katrina shared this photo of her mom’s legs. One leg has had the KKW Body foundation applied to it while the other leg is red and has discoloration.

“this is why i bought my mom the @kkwbeauty body foundation. with my mom’s sickness, she developed a skin condition and she’s been so embarrassed to even wear shorts or dresses out in public. she got so extremely happy after i applied the body foundation and i’m so emotional rn” @treeeenz

“this is why i was getting so angry about everyone who was saying this was a stupid product. please be mindful that not everyone has perfect skin/legs/etc. i can’t wait to take my mom out this summer and her not being self conscious about her illness”

She got many replies to her tweet supporting her. Some even shared their own insecurities.

Others, not so much.

I could see this having some truth. But I wonder if this person has an issue with the whole beauty industry?

I think this is a great concept. KKW Beauty is hardly the first brand to release body foundation. I remember as a teen when my mom came home with a body foundation to cover her vericose veins. I didn’t think she needed it but that’s not for me to decide.

While I see the point about “promoting unrealistic standards of perfection” from the whole beauty industry, not just the Kardashians, I think a lot of people are missing a point. Choice + growth. Choose to wear whatever you want. My mom chose to wear makeup on her legs in the summer. And eventually, she got tired of applying foundation to her legs are learned to accept them. The process of covering up her legs, made her engaged with them more and I think that is how she got over that insecurity. I haven’t heard my mom talk about how her veins look in years. Hopefully, Katrina’s mom goes through that same growth. And even if she continues to cover her legs, it is her choice. Respect that.

here’s to Feeling pretty

These $8 Fenty Dupes Will Be Your Summer Staple!

Colourpop to the rescue!

Colourpop came through with their Lite Stix + Blush Stix collection just in time! Summer make up means fast application. Blink and the season is over. We’ve got beaches to catch! We don’t want to spend a single extra minute worrying about perfect blending when their are weekend carnivals with our names all over them. What caught my eye, was the fact that this new Colourpop release included colors that looked like some of my favorite Fenty Beauty Shimmer Stix shades! I found Colourpop matches for almost all of the Fenty Shimmer Stix. The only one left out was Blondie. We can’t deny, Fenty has a way with gold that other brands haven’t yet grasped; Long Live Trophy Wife!! Here are the matches I found!

The Only Kylie Skin Review You Need: Michelle Phan Came Back To Save Us From Ourselves

Does Kylie Skin meet Michelle Phan’s standards?

Like a gaurdian angel watching the mayham about Kylie Skin unfold, Michelle Phan swooped back on to youtube to give beauty lovers a protecting voice. She guest starred in a ‘first impressions’ type of video on beauty influencer, Promise Tamang’s Youtube channel, Dope2111, to test out Kylie’s new skincare line.

It started with the announcement of a walnut scrub. That was the moment the internet beauty world erupted and started side-eyeing the release of baby Jenner’s skincare line. We all could see the release of Kylie Skin coming. We could have even predicted the twitter + meme circus that would come with it; for there rarely is a moment involving the Kardashian-Jenner clan that is unaccompanied by a social media tornado. Love them or hate them, the reality TV family is everywhere and so are their products. The hype could temp you to give them a try.

The OBG: Original Beauty Guru

Anyone who was a teenager in 2007 has seen a Michelle Phan beauty tutorial on Youtube. She turned her hobby into a business and now she owns her own beauty line, Em Cosmetics, and beauty subscription service, Ipsy Beauty!

The 32 year-old team up with her sister-in-law / beauty influencer, Promise Tamang, to spill all the tea about Kylie Skin and

if the walnut scrub will be scratching up our faces.

Promise Tamang is an incredibly talented artist who can change her face into almost anything!

No, seriously! It took me a minute to figure out which face was actually hers while scrolling through her IG.

They put their skin on the line to test it out.

Not all heroines wear capes!

Promise purchased the collection herself for $125 which she and Michelle both deemed a “fair” or “average” price for a full skincare routine.

When you and your bestie plan DIY facials together:

Each peice was tested and given a review based on how each of their faces felt in the moment.

The Foaming Face Wash:

Michelle: “Doesn’t feel that nourishing. Actually feels pretty drying as I’m washing this off. At the end of the day, you don’t want to buy the packaging or buy the hype. You want to buy a product that’s gonna work for you.” She also thought it would be better with teenagers with more oily skin.

Promise: “Not a velvety foam. It takes off like 80% of the makeup. It’s good but it’s not going to replace any of the cleansers I’m using now.”

The reason you’re here!

The Walnut Face Scrub:

Michelle: “It’s very finely milled. It’s not as bad as I thought it was, actually. But would I buy this for myself, no. I just think (physical exfoliants are) a dated formula.”

Promise: “I just feel like it’s not safe so I wouldn’t recommend for people to use this. Walnut scrubs are just a ‘no’ for me.“

The Vanilla Milk Toner

Michelle: “I don’t like fragrance in my skincare. So far this is my favorite product.”

Promise: “This feels really nice on the skin.”

Both were glad to see the left over makeup removed from their faces after cleansing and exfoliating.

The Vitamin C Serum

Michelle: “It’s OK. It’s not bad. It’s not the worst thing in the world but it’s not the best thing in the world either.”

Promise: “It’s a tad bit sticky but it’s good.”

The Face Moisturizer

Michelle: “Love the packaging. A little comes out [of the pump]; I like that. I like it more than the serum. It’s definitely the strongest [of the collection]”

Promise: “it’s nice and thick. I think it’s good.”

The Eye Cream

Michelle: “If you have sensitive skin, for sure you’re going to feel [the minty-ness]. Not bad.”

Promise: “There is a light bit of minty-ness. I think it’s good. I like the eye cream. I would say it feels like a nice eye cream”

Overall Thoughts

Michelle: “Could be better. If this was the first time I was getting into skin care, [this collection] is not a bad entry way. I do feel like there are other products that are much cheaper that are more effective. But you have to do extra research … if you want something easy, this is a nice way” to get started with skincare.

Promise: “it’s not ‘wow, impressive.” I think the walnut scrub threw people off.”

There faces say: You’ll try it because it’s Kylie but you probably won’t make many repurchases.

Meanwhile, Kylie posted a “day in the life” vlog.

Snoop Dogg Does A Voice Over For NikkieTutorials And It's Officially The Best Damn Video On Youtube

@bufferingbetty

Ain’t nothin’ but a beauty thang.

The last thing I expected to find while scrolling through my subscriptions on Youtube was a video bringing an OG rapper, Snoop Dogg, and an OBG youtuber, Nikkietutorials making a youtube video. That’s Original Beauty Guru for Nikkie. But, yes, it exists. And it’s exactly what the internet needed.

As the Global Artistry Adviser for Marc Jacobs Beauty, Nikkie was showing us the new Accomplice Instant Blurring Beauty Powder. There is also a demo of the Accomplice Concealer!

They took this video to new heights by featuring Snoop!

Who needs another ‘boyfriend does my makeup video.’

While it may seem odd to some, we can’t deny that Snoop Dogg is no stranger to his own beauty routine. He’s had so many iconic hair styles and the 47 year old Libra even gets his nails done! Your hair don’t shine like that and your curls don’t bounce like that unless you have an AM + PM routine.

Of course he is known for his lyrics and they way he speaks. He gives us some one-liners to remember.

“You know I got your back nik-nack”

“Put a little cream on that brizznush”

The best thing was how he chose to identify the products Nikkie was using and thus:

Primer will henceforth be referred to as ‘roots.’

He’s essentially her cheerleader throughout the video and I officially need him to release a word's-of-encouragement type of podcast that I can play any time I attempt to apply winged eyeliner.

“Nikkie you looking like a work of art, right now. Go ahead now! I’m loving this, It’s like a painting by Picasso”

Let’s just appreciate Snoop being here in a robe and smoking while doing this voice over.

Honestly, I’m petitioning that now J.Lo does a voice over for Desi Perkins. Who wouldn’t watch that!!!!!

Other Petitions:

Lil’ Wayne does a voice over for MannyMUA
Daniel Radcliff does a for Kathleenlights
Snooki does a voice over for Jackie Aina

Zero Waste Skincare Brand That Is Perfect For Your Tree Hugging Bestie

@bufferingbetty

Captain Planet would be so proud.

A growing trend amongst Millennials consumers is shopping with more social consciousness. Rather than just buying from a brand that sells a product, they want to feel like they’re supporting a brand who stands for a cause. Loli Beauty is here for anyone looking to shop from a company that is looking to change the culture of the beauty industry by protecting our ever changing environment. Global warming is real, my loves. Loli Beauty is making their mark by producing products that are zero waste by designing packaging that is reuseable and compostable.

Meet Loli Beauty

Social conscious shopping isn’t a trend that is exclusive to the beauty industry. It seems that it is no longer enough for a brand to ‘round up to the next dollar’ to donte to a charity. It is becoming an expectation for a brand to voice, for example, stances on political issues.

Relatively recently, Nike made a bold statement when it chose to feature NFL player, Colin Kaepernick in a campaign. I haven’t ever watched a pro football game in my life; not even the one time I attended a Superbowl party. But, even I know that Kaepernick, now a household name, caused waves each time he knelt during the singing of the National Anthem to protest the police brutality of black people. By Nike featuring Kaepernick, they told its consumers that they support the athlete’s message.

Was Nike’s campaign for coin or was it in earnest, that’s an answer that will never truly be known. By Loli Beauty designing a zero waste company, they are acknowledging the validity of Global Warming: a topic that politicians themselves still dispute despite the overwhelming scientific evidence.

Of course, beauty isn’t new to voicing an opinion. There dozens of brands who express passion for ethical practices such as being cruelty free or fair trade. Beauty bloggers and consumers have rejected lines that neglect to have more inclusive shade ranges or do not feature people of color as regularly as white models. The world i changing and getting smaller. If these brands want to stay relevant and make money, they’ve got to adapt. Protecting the future of our environment is one of those causes. It’s why freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has gaining popularity.

The Beauty industry thrives on consumerism. So we should do it more responsibly. According to Gary Gardner, director of research for Worldwatch, said, "[m]ost of the environmental issues we see today can be linked to consumption, As just one small example, there was a story in the newspaper just the other day saying that 37 percent of species could become extinct due to climate change, which is very directly related to consumption" (source).

Consumers spend $18 billion globally every year (source). We can do more to help the environment and Loli Beauty can help you make that important first step.

Beauty is a luxury at all price points. It isn’t an absolute necessity for me to paint my eyebrows into something other than what nature gave me, but it is part of the human condition to be just a little bit obsessed with our looks. Cosmetics go as far back as Ancient Egypt; we’ve all attempted that signature Cleopatra eyeliner. So it is unlikely that these levels of consumerism will decrease. In turn, consumers need to do more to encourage brands to reduce waste.

We can be concerned with Mercury’s retrograde’s affect on us while recognizing how our treatment of the planet where we live is affected by our behaviors. And change them.

LOLI stands for Living Organic Loving Ingredients.

Loli doesn’t just want you to have products that nourish your skin but they care about what you do with the jars once the product is finished! In a article about packaging, WWD writer, Jennifer Weil, said, “green is the fastest-growing theme for beauty packaging these days.”

“From our food-grade, glass yogurt jars that can be reused for food storage , to our certified compostable labels, bags and boxes, we are thoughtful in our choices and mindful of both the planet and people” (LOLI)

As I though Loli Beauty didn’t think through how many jars a person store without concerning people, they did shut me down! They announced via instagram it;s new refill program! Keep your original jar and order a refill of your product in a compostable pouch. Plus you’ll get 30% off. Everyone wins!

One of the features I love on their site is how Loli proudly displays the ingredients of each product.

And breaks down all the details you need to know about their products.

Let’s look at some products!!!

Kat Von D Addresses Nazi + Anti-Vaxx Scandal In An 11 Min Youtube Video

@bufferingbetty

"I'm Not Anti-Semitic And I Am Not An Anti-Vaxxer"

Kat Von D is fighting to take her name back and shut down rumors that she’s grown weary of hearing. She addresses gossip that she is a Nazi and an Anti Vaxxer in a youtube video that’s amassed nearly 1,6 million views thus far.

On being a Nazi

Tattoo artist turned beauty mogul, Kat Von D, has not escaped the fate of the rumor mill. I remember when someone told me that ‘Kat von D is a Nazi.’ “But, she’s Hispanic,” was all I could say. You can’t be a Nazi and Hispanic, right? That duel identity would surely make anyone implode on themselves.

But, obviously, you can be Hispanic and Anti-Semitic. And this is the rumor Kat Von D addresses at the beginning of the the 11 minute video. She tells viewers that she was born in Mexico to Argentinian parents. She then goes on to tell us that Spanish was her first language. Just in case you didn’t believe her, she then says the statement all over again in Spanish.

While she has disabled comments on the youtube video, citing that “there are way too many trolls out there who aren't capable of having considerate conversations about topics like these” (source), she did not deactivate the comments on her Instagram post about the video. Some people questioned what being Latina had to do with the Nazi rumor.

I do not believe that Kat von D was saying “I’m Latina therefore I cannot be racist/ Anti-Semitic.” But I do think she was pointing out that Nazis glorified European whiteness. While she has pale skin, she is not European or White and therefore cannot be a Nazi. Her bringing up her own heritage was a way, I think, of addressing the fact that some people have an idea of what they believe a Latina should look like and that Kat Von D does not fit that stereotype for some people. As a Latina myself, I know how society expects Latinas to look and behave and when you don’t fit their mold, your Latinidad is challenged. But, again, being non-white does not mean you cannot be racist or Anti-Semitic.

According to 37 year old beauty icon, the Anti-Semtic rumors come from when she was a reality TV star on Miami Ink. When she joined the cast, the ratings went up and Kat Von D says that is when “hazing” began from a cast member who felt threatened. The hazing got so out of control that Kat Von D chose to leave the show. Because of her popularity, the network offered her own tattoo reality show spin off show called L.A. Ink. When she was leaving, she had left autographed photos for the production crew. Once the cast member who had been harassing Kat Von D found out about the spin off, he took one of the autographed photos to the network. In addition to her autograph, there was an Anti-Semitic comment and the scorned cast member threatened to release the photo unless the spin off was canceled. She did not confirm if the cast member wrote the message himself. There would be no way of knowing that. Kat Von D says production with L.A. Ink continued because network could tell that the Anti-Semitic comment was not her hand writing.

Kat Von D says she speaking out now because of her son. “None of this feels good to relive. But I have a son now and seeing all these awful comments and the things people are saying, I can’t just sit around and pretend like it’s gonna go away. And it sucks that over this last decade that every time this 8x10 comes up I have to, you know, be reminded of this really awful, traumatizing time. And after all this recent hate, it’s just -enough is enough. It’s time for me to finally speak up and set the record straight”

On Being Anti-Vaxx

Kat Von D struggles to talk about this subject a little bit more that than the other rumor which isn’t surprising. She is putting her family in a vulnerable space. She says, “I am not an anti-vaxxer. What I am is a first time mother.”

She explains that she is the type of mom who obsesses over the ingredients of what is going “in or on [her] baby.” When she was pregnant, she was asked if she would vaccinate her child. In the video she says she was hesitant. However, she was much or adamant in the original post.

The post where she initially shared that she would not vaccinate her child has been taken down but the caption was as follows:"And, if you don’t know what it’s like to have the entire world openly criticize, judge, throw uninformed opinions, and curse you - try being an openly pregnant vegan on Instagram, having a natural, drug-free home birth in water with a midwife and doula, who has the intention of raising a vegan child, without vaccinations." (source)

It’s a post that led to a boycott of Kat Von D Beauty.

In another Instagram post, Kat Von D wrote: “My husband @prayers and I are NOT anti-vaxxers,” she wrote. “We are not against vaccines. Just because we have hesitancies and valid concerns about injecting our baby with specific chemicals and toxins does not mean we are anti anything” (source)

In the end of the youtube video, Kat Von D expresses regret for having shared her and her husband’s stance on where they were at the time in regards to vaccinating their child. She says. “Since then, we have decided as parents to consult with our pediatrician and just let him educate us and guide us… Unlike before, I’ve learned my lesson and I am choosing not to make our decision or any of our baby’s health records public. And I just want to thank you guys for respecting that.”

I think some people expected her to say whether or not she was going to vaccinate her child in this video. Because she didn’t, some of the comments from the Instagram post about her video left some followers unsatisfied.

“You literally cleared up nothing??? You just danced around the subjects???

“Unfollowing.”

“Sales must really be down…”

In all fairness, that last comment may have a point. Sales may be down. Kat Von D Beauty recently released a new mascara. For the first time in its history, the brand is choosing another celebrity, other than Kat Von D, as the face of their latest product (source). Is it the first move in disconnecting the brand from it’s namesake?

Jackie Cruz is the actress who plays Flaca on the Netflix original series, Orange Is The New Black. Now she is the face of Go Big Or Go Home mascara for Kat Von D Beauty.

It could just be a coincidence that after a major scandal and boycott that the brand is featuring a new face. It could be that Kat Von D herself is choosing a fresher face so she can spend more time with her son.

While her video did get some backlash, many of the comments were in support of Kat Von D sharing her side of the story.

“Don’t spend another secon on this, darling. You are an amazing person, and don’t need to defend yourself! Just live your beautiful life with your beautiful family, and don’t look back.”

“I just watched your video and commend you for your courage to stand up to those who hate. I think you are amazing! Ps I love your makeup”

Magnetic Lashes Just Got Even Easier

@bufferingbetty

Can’t fight the magnetic pull

Magnetic lashes have been on the scene for a minute now. This innovative beauty hack has been one that I have been fascinated by. I could watch video after video of gurus mastering the magnetic lash. When they first started to creep into our social feeds, the lashes were magnetic to each other. There were two sets of lashes, one per eye, where a top lash band made a sandwich out of your own lashes with the bottom lash band. Moxie Lash just raised the bar when they thought of a way to make you the magnet!

Meet Moxie Lash

Ok, so you are not the magnet but your LINER IS!!! Moxie Lash has made a liquid and gel eyeliner that are magnetic and hold your magnetic lashes in place! You apply the eyeliner, let it dry, and then apply your favorite pair of magnetic lashes. When asked if their liner will work with other magnetic lashes, Moxie Lash says, “Absolutely! Our eyeliner works with any & all magnetic lashes!” (source)

Lashes are the final touch to any look. If you ever loved your eye makeup but wondered what was lacking in the pop factor, it’s your lashes, honey.

Magnetic Gel Liner: $32

Magnetic Liquid Liner: $45

This set of magnetic lashes is the format we’ve gotten used to seeing. The aforementioned sandwich method. I have personally tried a pair of magnetic lashes like these in the past from Ardell.

My struggle was that the magnets did not sit exactly on each other, so they always looked wrong in some way. Remember in elementary school when you first learned about magnets. Did you ever get the magnets that, yes, they pulled toward each other, but they weren’t perfectly on each other. Imagine that but eye lashes attached. I just thought maybe I got a bad pair. Moxie Lash eliminated the issue of having to align magnets right near your eye!

They currently have 3 styles of lashes each available for $35. Each lash band has 5 magnets that latch on to the liner. The Ardell magnetic lashes I tried only had three magnets. Because of that, I could not trim down the lashes to the length I needed them to be. I think with more magnets, you could make the lash more customize-able.

Classy Lash
Sassy Lash
Flashy Lash

My very first thought when I heard of magnetic liner for your lashes was that your lashes would fly off with a gust of wind. But Moxie says their lashes are wind resistant and stay in place all day. They tested it out with a blow dryer. was

My next thought brought me a question of safety. Could having a magnet near your eye for a few hours a day impact your eyes? Moxie Lash says yes!

“Yes! We’ve been in business for close to a year with THOUSANDS of customers and we’ve never had any issues. In fact, Princeton Consumer Research independently studied the effects of prolonged magnetic lash use in healthy female subjects, and not a single adverse reaction was found. Rest assured that MoxieLash has officially been deemed safe for everyday use. Of course, as with any new product, people with pre-existing eye conditions should consult their doctor before using MoxieLash.” (source)

Top Celebrity Makeup Artists Release Their Own Products!

@bufferingbetty

Beyonce. Shay Mitchell. You.

When it comes to stalking celebrity beauty tips + tricks, I always want to know who is the name behind the face! Luckily, these days, actresses and music artists don’t shy away from giving the hands behind their signature looks a moment to shine too. These things aren’t so secret anymore.

Sir John + Patrick Ta have both been creating products!

Sir John x WBeauty

If you follow any aspect of the beauty world, you already know who Sir John’s biggest celebrity client is: Beyonce! He also is the adviser on the reality TV show, American Beauty Star. His role is like Tim Gunn’s part on Project Runway. He’s very active on social media and began running in circles with big name Youtubers like Desi Perkins. He’s hosted masterclasses around the world, including a class that was held at a Woolworth department store in Johannesburg, South Africa, where the collection will soon launch!

He’s even appeared in a Youtube video on Nikkietutorials’ channel where he did her makeup. In that video, he told viewers how he uses wig glue to keep Beyonce’s eyebrows in place.

Sir John has partnered with a department store in South Africa and released cosmetics collaboration including an eyeshadow palette, lippies, what appears to be nail polish, and cheek products. There isn’t a release date yet. It is only available in South Africa at the moment ……but I’m sure those who crave it, will have it! On Woolworth’s instagram they referred to this collection as ‘Volume 1.” Will there be a Volume 2??

Here are some screen grabs from the Woolworth’s Launch Party!

Are you booking a flight to South Africa??

Now for Patrick Ta!

In the past couple of years, Partick Ta has been making his name more known. Especially with some social media influences. When I think of Patrick Ta’s signature looks, his client that often comes to mind is Shay Mitchell. He often works with her and shows all of his 1.3 million followers on Instagram his work.

Like Sir John, Patrick Ta has made a Youtube appearance on Desi Perkins’ channel where he did her makeup.

But now Patrick Ta is ready for his own line! When he launched Patrick Ta Beauty, his products sold out! They will be available for purchase at Sephora starting May 24th!

Major Beauty Brand Collabs With A Witch For Newest Collection And We’re Totally Under It’s Spell

@bufferingbetty

Tú Me Hiciste Brujería

Some of us beauty lovers know that there is something magical about makeup and skincare. Another way to think about your beauty routine is to remember that these moments spent treating your skin and applying your makeup is a ritual. Smashbox cosmetics has teamed up with The Hoodwitch to create a crystal inspired collection.

This was the promo that stopped our hearts!

WHo is The HoodWitch?

Our long time readers will recognize the name right away. A few years ago, Pepper had the opportunity to interview Bri Luna, the woman behind The Hoodwitch.

Of course there is her body of work, thehoodwitch.com. Connect to yourself on a higher frequency with her intuitive guidance through reading her blogs. There are weekly horoscopes she features on a post called “Witch Tips and Horoscopes.”

You want to know about the power that comes from a New Moon or what the hell people mean when they say “Mercury is in retrograde,” this is a site that has the answers to all of those questions.

There is a shop that sells crystals and smudging tools. Definitely better than getting random crystals from companies like Urban Outfitters who are just chasing a buck verses genuinely nourishing your mystical knowledge and power. You can find a Bruja Bookshop as well!

Since so much discovery happens on Instagram, you’ve definitely seen The Hoodwitch’s iconic manicures that landed her a collab with Floss Gloss and a feature on Vogue.com. Even if you don’t run in zodiac or crystal loving circles, you would’ve come across her feed just for the sheer #nailinsp0 #nailenvy Bri Luna is always serving us.

But, of course!, so many people have learned of The Hoodwitch through her JAW - DROPPINGLY - GORGEOUS exhibit in Refinery 29’s 29 Rooms exhibit.

Our very own site creator got to experience it!

The real ones trust thehoodwitch.com for authentic bruja knowledge and tools.

What this collab is NOT:

A tacky bastardization of witchcraft and spirituality. We all remember the disrespectful disaster that The Pinrose Starter Witch Kit was. What is often forgotten when it comes to witchcraft is that for many of it’s followers, it is a religion. And Pinrose missed the memo. They saw a rise in the popularity of crystals and went after it with no regard, or basic research, before they launched this collection.

Because of the history of Pinrose, when I caught wind of the Smashbox collection, the first thing I thought I saw was ‘crystal themed sprays.’ I rolled my eyes and scrolled right past it. I thought, “Oh great, another bastardization of a minority culture that is mocked, misused, and then abused once some celebrity (Kim K) says they are suddenly just sooo into it.” I was ready to ignore it all together. I had just seen like 10 videos on IG of bloggers dunking rose quartz rollers into a jar of some expensive moisturizers and facetiously rubbing it on their faces. But then Pepper texted me a screen shot that showed it is being done with The Hoodwitch! Mood changed!!!

One, she is a practicing witch. Two, I am forever reading her blog. Three, I have purchased two of her sage bundles, one with sunflowers and the other with roses, and I genuinely believe in, and am intimidated by, there power. Finally: she is a woman of color! Yes, that always makes me swell with pride when I see all kinds of minority women getting a spotlight!

More than just my typical fangirling, which you know I always am, this collaboration is clearly well done. Of course, part of me believes that Smashbox is just cashing in on a trend. Colourpop has done crystal sprays, Kim K did a crystal fragrance, Sephora is selling crystal infused eyeshadow palettes, -I literally saw a sage bundle in a Cosmo Mag last summer and thought- this is going to get out of hand. It’s one thing to teach people about this culture and these rituals involving crystals and sage. It’s a whole other thing to steal from a culture. Without including people, like Bri Luna, who put in the work to educate others about their practices. It is irresponsible and offensive.

Bri Luna did an Instagram Live the day of the collection launch and talked about her collab. She was ready with a response to anyone who doubted her validity as a witch for working with a big company like Smashbox.

“…I feel like for all black and brown brujas - when you have that door of opportunity and when people who actually respect your work and they come to you and they hire you to do a proper collaboration, then that is up to you to say ‘you know what, this does feel like an opportunity to share my vision. …You have to know your truth and i think that you can properly collaborate and you can work with these bigger companies when know your integrity…. I was not willing to make a ‘witch kit.’ i was not going to put sage and crystals into a package. … I love crystals, i love minerals, i think that theyre beautiful but am i going to put an endangered plant into a package? No. that’s ridiculous to me. This is my real practice. this is my real life. I worked as a makeup artist for over 5 yrs. i love period makeup. i love history. i love alchemy, i love learning how minerals were used to create some of the first eyeshadows in egypt by using lapis lazuli, … These practices are not trendy. they are not new. This is ancient. these are ancient minerals. These are ancient stones that were created to make makeup. Makeup in itself was always seen as a form of sorcery and enchantment and magic. So I love glamour and that’s kind of why i felt as a Taurus, who is ruled by Venus, I felt very aligned with making a beauty collection. … I feel like everything I do in my life is intentional… So I think that even something as simple as doing makeup, you’re going in with an intention. Makeup allows us to be ourselves. and it allows us to create our own reality. … There is no right or wrong way to do your makeup. There is no right or wrong way to be spiritual… Do not allow yourself to be pinned down with labels. I feel good. I feel confident with what I’ve put into this world with what I’ve co created. I’m just so grateful.

Ulta has a shade finder to help you pick your color. Though there is a mix of neutral, warm, and cool shades, there seems to be a consistent pink tint to many of the colors. Even the ‘warm’ shades which seem fairly pink or orange.. I haven’t seen them in person to be totally certain. According to Smith + Cults description of the colors, they warm tones should lean yellow appear more orange.

“Melting” is the word that continuously circles the description of this foundation. It leads me to think that you may need the warmth of your fingers to best work this foundation into your skin.

Oh, Snap!

It’s no secret that, here on Meetpepperb.com, that we go hard for The Lip Bar! It’s more than just makeup. It’s a whole damn beauty revolution. Their vision of beauty and the version of beauty that they give this industry is unlike any other. The founder, Melissa Butler, is also just a badass bawse lady. Of course, the makeup ain’t half bad either. Their newest release will take your back to courtyards, high tops, and roller blades.

Meet Minimalist

I remember the first time I wore lip gloss. 1999, I was 9. There was a beauty supply/dollar store right down the block from my after school program. The first thing I saw when I walked into the store was that the end cap of one of the aisles had all these tiny clear lip glosses. I picked one that looked like pale purple in the tube but it had no color on the lips. When I put it on, it was the first time I noticed the shape of my lips. All my friends and I had that same lip gloss. It was thick and sticky and gave the illusion of more volume.

This gloss is taking me back!

The Lip Bar launched the Minimalist lip gloss with a homage to the 90s. In this image I had flashbacks of listening to Aaliyah and TLC. I see jewelry and hair styles that my aunt and her friends wore. I see genuine appreciation, understanding and love for the 90s. Not the tacky rip off we have been seeing lately with no inclusion of the culture of women who originated the style.

That authenticity is what keeps us going back to The Lip Bar.

“If no where else, your beauty is validated here.”

From the moment you log on to The Lip Bar’s site, they show you who they are. To have a dark skin, plus size woman, with natural hair right in line with a thin, blonde, white woman SHOUTS to every consumer who is beautiful in their vision: black girls, brown girls, big girls, those of us who don’t see ourselves reflected as beautiful in far too many spaces. To then have that image followed by a clear statement that validates our beauty and the struggle of under-representation and misrepresentation exemplifies the powerful voice behind this brand.

The Lip Bar just had the grand opening of their flagship store in Detroit just a couple of weeks ago!

And there is much more coming from the lip Bar too!

A couple of days ago, they had this survey link in their IG stories. The survey featured questions asking to give feedback on what would make the ideal lip palette. Is a lip palette going to happen???

aaaand...

This happened in January.

They posted a picture of an empty compact with this caption:

”… after 6 years of busting my ass to create amazing products, grow the brand and launch with major retailers... WE’RE EXPANDING OUTSIDE OF LIPS!! 🎉🙌🏾🙀” (source)

What do you think is going to fill that compact? I’m hoping for blushes, highlighters and bronzers but highlighter is my very first guess.

While we wait, we’ll perfect our pout.

Revive Your Scalp With This New Hair Care Line From Target!

@bufferingbetty

Healthy Scalp = Healthy Hair.

When shopping for a new hair care line, we are all looking for same thing. It’s products that when you use them, you have that classic rom-com scene. You know it well: the leading lady turns her head, the wind blows, catches her hair, all flowing and gorgeous -capturing the attention of the hot barista with big dreams. He’s a writer, or some shit, -super talented but doesn’t believe in himself, blah, blah, blah, they get married. No? You don’t have wild daydreams standing alone in an aisle at Target? Just me. Cool.

Ok so maybe this new line from Kristin Ess’ Target collection won’t land you a husband but it has the potential to get you to fall in love with your hair.

This line caught my attention because I personally have a lot of issues with my scalp. Somehow I have flaky patches and oiliness. Pimples. You name it, I have it. I have thin, frizzy hair, too, so I want to find a line that can smooth my hair without making it flat. One of my go to scalp treatments is Phyto’s Botanical Scalp Treatment (see here). I love it! Really balances my scalp but it’s $40 and I want something a little more cost efficient. I haven’t tried this new line from Kristin Ess but it checks all my boxes!

Scalp Purifying Micellar Shampoo

If you are looking for a clarifying shampoo, this could be your guy. After using too many hair products, the micellar water could break up the build up. I would avoid using this daily. Just when you need that deep clean.

The Big Claim: “ the micellar water gently washes away impurities while leaving your natural moisture intact.” (source)

Weightless Hydration Daily Scalp + Hair Mask

Be mindful of the ‘daily’ claim from this mask. Products often claim they are safe for daily use however it is always better to listen to your hair and skincare needs than to blindly follow the instructions on a bottle.

The Big Claim: “This multi-tasking mask uses natural minerals and botanical oils to calm and rebalance the scalp … Don't worry about heaviness - this whipped mask is light enough for daily use.” (source)

Instant Exfoliating Scalp Scrub

Honestly, this whole line has my full attention. This is one product that I already have chilling in my cart.

The Big Claim: “This non-drying scrub removes flakes, product build-up, excess sebum, and hard water deposits from the scalp, giving you a cleaner canvas through gentle exfoliation. I formulated this with a sugar complex to keep natural moisture intact.” (source)

Scalp Detoxifying Bubble Hair Mask

I think this might be worth looking into to replace my Phyto’s Botanical Scalp Treatment.

The Big Claim: “This bubbling scalp mask instantly removes oil, build-up, dead surface skin cells + debris. Use it as a pre-shampoo scalp treatment on dry hair before you shower, then once the bubbles wear off … wash your hair!” (source)

Anytime Anywhere Scalp + Hair Milk Oil

The Big Claim: “This PH balanced bi-phase milk oil was designed to hydrate + protect. The oil phase combines avocado, olive, jojoba + castor oils to restore moisture and rejuvenate the scalp and hair. The milk phase uses panthenol + a shea-based emollient complex to add instant softness and shine. Best part: this can be used on wet or dry hair.” (source)
