Comfortable Matte Lipstick

Let Me Tell You About My Best Friend

Written by Twist.It.Tea

Ok, two best friends because I have this lip in two shades: Grrrl and O.G. Red.  Finally, I feel like I may have found my soulmates.  Not only are these shades my fave but they’re everything I want and need in a matte lip.  It doesn’t require a base because it has shea butter, coconut oils and grapefruit peel oils in it to soften your lips and provide extra moisture (MAJOR KEY).

Milk uses a special technology called Milk Melt that matches your body temp for an “instant glide and a second skin feel”.  This formula feels so good on your lips from application through the whole night.  When I use matte lips I almost feel like they’re a little gritty and ‘skip’ on the application, but because of all of those amazing oils and the shea butter, it was a smooth transition from stick to lip.  It’s important to me that my matte formula doesn’t dry out my lips, especially during the winter months.

This formula is very pigmented and is definitely an all-nighter.  Even when it did start to fade, my lips were still held a subtle tint.  I love that about this line, it fades with grace so I still feel confident throughout the night that I don’t have to constantly be reapplying.

I am always carrying the shade, Grrrl around with me because I think it goes with everything.  It gives me a little bit of a 90’s vibe but I’m into it. It’s described as a ‘Deep Plum’ but to be honest I find it more in the mauve family with a hint of grey.  I love it because I’m a huge fan of this shade I’ve been wearing it all winter and fall.  And like the OG Red it stays on all night and the subtle tint is reliable until I can get into a mirror to reapply.

O.G. Red is super pigmented and is now my go-to for when I want a fire engine red.  It’s a litttttle messy, but what best friend isn’t? I’m always so careful when I apply this shade because it somehow gets on my chin and teeth (unfortunately) but I don’t really care to be honest because the shade is that dope.  I wear some lipliner with this shade and it won’t feather around my lips, and even though it’s a little finicky to apply I really love this formula and shade overall.

Time to Take These Beauties Off The Bench: The Starting Line Up for Fall 2017

Black Up Matte Jumbo Lip Pencil in 21M ($22 from Sephora)- Not only am I LOVING this shade of an orangey nude matte, but I’m about to buy the entire line, tthe formula is that good.  The matte lip liner that dubs as a lipstick is my new go to. It’s easy to apply and my lips stay pigmented throughout the day.  Huge plus that it doesn’t dry out my lips all crazy.

Smith’s Menthol and Eucalyptus Balm ($6 from Sephora)- I have been using Smith’s lip balm for years.  I love everything about this little baby. A little goes a long way because of the jelly-like formula but I love the versatility of being able to wear it under lip sticks or stains when my lips are dry in need some moisture. Once the temperate starts to drop my lips are the first to get feel the weather so I keep one of these in my bag at all times because it really does the trick.  The minty freshness of the menthol is a nice touch too ;)

Makeup Forever Liquid Matte in Rosewood in 105 ($22 from Sephora): If Makeup Forever were to ever discontinue this shade I would have very, very, strong opinions about it, and also nightmares, because I genuinely love it so much.  Seriously, it is a beautiful mauve and the liquid matte lipstick formula is a solid 10/10, even when it’s been through 2 matcha lattes, an avocado toast and a spliff, my lips are still pulling through with the pigmentation all while maintaining comfort.  Shout out to the avocado oil and glycerin, and that’s what’s in the formula – not my lunch.

Black Up Lipstick in 28 ($23 from Sephora)- As much as I love a good matte … Black Up steals my heart with their Satin Finish Lipstick.  I feel so badass in this lipstick, I’m not going to lie. Pictured is shade 28 in Deep Magenta, but not only is it a killer purple but it has a beautiful sparkle to it.  It has the perfect balance of dark and mysterious but also fun and playful…it’s great for all day wear depending on your mood. This + my Milk Supernova Highlighter = perfection

Smashbox Legendary Lipstick in Inspiration ($21 from Smashbox) – I know this shade kind of looks like the odd one out but let me tell you how beautiful this lipstick is with the Black Up Lipstick in 28 + smashbox Insta-Matte over top … wow. A whole new feel to this too-bright-for-me lipstick.  Worn alone, bright fuchsia pink isn’t normally my style, but mix in a complementary color to give it some definition and I’m all game to experiment.  I’ll end up layering on lipsticks through out the night/day but this is a great base color for my ‘brighter’ fall days.

Urban Decay Vice Lipsticks

Written By: Danyelle V

Is lipstick your biggest Vice?

Who else drooled as they watched Urban Decay launch their Vice lipstick line? Tell me I wasn't alone when I tasted the bitterness of jealousy as some of our favorite internet beauty gurus opened their PR boxes to 100 beautifully packaged lipsticks.

The bullet style lipstick tube is a mixed metal, mirrored finish. One of my favorite room decor palettes includes mixed metals. The purplish gun metal pairs so well with the pale yellow gold. Both the lid and the lipstick have been stamped with a gorgeous UD. The base of each lipstick has a sticker whose color matches the lipstick in the tube. Which, as you all already know, is one of my favorite things!

Safe Word comes in the comfort matte finish. It is a nude brown with a bit of yellow to it. The comfort matte finish is aptly named. Safe Word feels like silk on your lips. While it doesn't leave you with the traditional total matte finish of a liquid lipstick, it saves you from feeling dehydrated all day.

This next shade is Phone Call. It is a Sheer finish which has more luminosity. With just one layer of Phone Call, you've added a glossy, warm pink tint to your lips. For more color, just layer on the lipstick until you have the opacity you desire. The shade build nicely without balling up on your lips.

The shades of the Vice Collection are available in Matte, High Shine, Metallic, Satin, and a Shimer finish plus the two I showed you here. If you use liquid lipsticks and can't see yourself going back to bullet a style lipstick, I've got some news for you! Urban Decay is set to launch Vice Liquid Lipsticks very soon! End of January!

Available at Sephora; $17
